Setting Goals
Do you have certain goals you set for the year?
Many leaders approach a new year by setting detailed goals, but in ministry, goals are not always the primary focus. Instead of chasing numbers, it is more important to pursue health. When a church is healthy, growth will follow.
Rather than setting specific goals, focus on building and maintaining health in every area of your church. Healthy teams, healthy systems, healthy culture, and healthy teaching naturally create an environment where people grow spiritually and the church grows numerically.
This does not mean you should ignore numbers. Quite the opposite. You should know your church’s numbers and track everything consistently. Attendance, salvations, baptisms, small groups, and giving are indicators of health. If something is not growing, that is a sign to look deeper. Numbers are not the goal, but they are a tool to measure the health of the body.
The key is to keep your eyes on health and use numbers as a guide. When your church is healthy, you will see lives change, teams multiply, and ministries flourish. Healthy things grow, and that growth is the fruit of stewardship and faithfulness.
