Leadership Structure for a Church Under 1,000

What is your recommended leadership structure for a church under 1,000 and less than 5 years old? Do you recommend a more flat or built-out structure?

There are two structures, regardless of your size, that you should consider. Either have an Executive Team or an Executive Pastor.


At the beginning of the church, I kept things in a flat line and asked everyone four questions: 

  1. What is the priority that you are working on right now?
    • I wanted to hear what people were focusing on and help if they were focused on something that wasn’t a priority.
  2. What’s not working right now?
  3. What can I do to help you right now?
  4. How are you doing?
